During the course of his studies, Hunt was awarded a travelling fellowship that allowed him to gain a more global perspective on art--Hunt visited England, France, Spain and Italy. During his junior year, achieved critical acclaim when Museum of Modern Art in New York purchased Arachne, one of his pieces. This may have been a tipping point in his career—Hunt’s success expanded exponentially.

The artist is a skilled lithographer, draftsman, and printmaker, however, Hunt is regarded by many as one of the nation’s most accomplished abstract sculptors. He is well known for his welded and cast steel, aluminum, copper or bronze images. Among the most famous of them are images from Hunt’s Running Hybrid Series. They invoke one of the artist’s strongest influences—that of Julio Gonzalez, who is described as having captured the essence of “drawing in space.” This quality is mirrored in Hunt’s work. Despite the density of his large scale images, Hunt’s works simulates sweeping and sometimes upwardly lifting movements. In the artist’s own words, “In some works it is my intention to develop the kind of forms Nature might create if only heat and steel were available to her.”

A prolific artist whose work is much sought after, Hunt has received over 150 public commissions. including his "Jacob’s Ladder" at the Carter G. Woodson Library (Chicago) and "We Will" at the Heritage building on the corner of Randolph and Garland Court (Chicago). Hunt is said to have honed his welding skills in the basement of his parents’ home. Today, his state of the art studio is housed in a converted trolley station on the north side of Chicago.

Hunt enjoys international patronage of his work which can be found in many public spaces including Washington, D.C., Chicago, Vienna and Jerusalem.
