The NOLA Hip Hop Archive was founded by Holly Hobbs, a Ph.D. candidate at Tulane University, in 2012. The goal of Hobbs’ project is to add to the growing body of documentation of hip hop and bounce oral histories in New Orleans, Louisiana, in order to highlight the music's role as an important community art form. With the assistance of videographer Dick Darby and production assistant Colin Meneghini, Hobbs conducted a series of videotaped interviews with hip hop and bounce artists and pioneers in New Orleans, which form the basis for this collection.

Additional interviews will be added as they are completed, as will ephemeral material including show flyers, posters, etc. collected by Hobbs and others. To date, the NOLA Hip Hop Archive has focused on the recording and collection of digital videotaped oral histories. The collection currently contains 48 videotaped interviews with leading hip hop and bounce artists, including: Mannie Fresh, Mystikal, KLC, Nesby Phips, Dee-1, Partners-n-Crime, Leroy "Precise" Edwards, Ricky B, Black Menace, DJ Raj Smoove, Raw Dizzy, 6-shot, DJ Jubilee, Sinista, Sess 4-5, Truth Universal, DJ Quickie Mart, Impulss, Big Dyce, Skip UTP, DJ EF Cuttin, Nicky da B, DJ Rusty Lazer, Dave Soul, DJ Black n Mild, K Gates, Melaphyre, Allie Baby, Keedy Black, The Show, 10th Ward Buck, Lucky Johnson, DJ Spin, and Queen Blackkold Madina.
